How Mercy Transformed a Murderer

"Maria's forgiveness saved me." ~Alessandro Serenelli (St. Maria Goretti's murderer)

Exorcist Fr. Carlos Martins has experienced the powerful supernatural help of Serenelli during exorcisms.

According to Fr. Martins, "Demons often voice their hatred of Alessandro Serenelli. He's the failed demonic project, who had been a murderer, lived a wretched life, and who had taken away the life of this 11-year-old little girl — but then who received her forgiveness, made his peace with God, then lived a very holy life."

While St. Maria Goretti is widely known as the little martyr of purity, her other title, no less important, is "the little saint of great mercy."

It was her remarkable mercy, shown to a hardened, cruel, unrepentant murderer in prison, that entirely transformed him.

Not just that. The amazing mercy shown by Maria's mother — whose life had been destroyed by Alessandro's crime of passion, not just in her daughter's brutal death but also because she lost her five other children through poverty afterwards — is astounding.

Every aspect of this story is incredible, showcasing miracle upon miracle of God's grace and mercy.

About Stella Maris Media

Illustration of Our Lady, Star of the Sea (Stella Maris)

Our vision

The name Stella Maris has its roots in a 5th-century translation by St. Jerome of the Hebrew name for Mary, Miryam. Originally written as Stilla Maris, it meant "Drop of the Sea." Through what likely stemmed from a transcription error, this evolved into Stella Maris, which means "Star of the Sea."

This title has been cherished in Catholic tradition, especially among seafarers before modern navigation, as they relied on the stars to guide them. Notably, the North Star, Polaris, was also known as Stella Maris.

Beyond just seafarers, Stella Maris serves as a beacon for all of life’s travelers, illuminating the darkness and offering hope as it cuts through the fog, guiding us toward the bright shores of eternity.

"Bringing hope to a world in need."
