The Mystic Priest Who Suffered for the Church | FORWARD BOLDLY

The Surrender Novena changed my life.

It providentially fell in my lap during a time in my life when I needed it. And praying it gave me the courage to finally move forward and leave a bad situation.

Father Dolindo Ruotolo was the priest behind the novena, which is unique in that it's made up of the very words of Our Lord spoken to this priest.

Don Dolindo was a mystic who suffered for the Church. On his tombstone is sketched the following words:

In my priesthood, you left me as one mutilated, O Holy Church of God.

Pruned by tribulation, yet no one could ever separate me from You.

My priesthood bloomed precisely in humiliation and, like ivy with a hundred roots, clung to Your eternal Priesthood, O Jesus.

Even as he suffered for and at the hands of the very Church he loved, he chose to remain faithful. He chose full submission to the Vicar of Christ, the Roman Pontiff, and set an example of heroic suffering offered up for souls. He was eventually vindicated.

What's more, God deeply blessed his ministry and made it fruitful — during his life, and after his death, with numerous answers to prayers through his intercession.

Translator Maria Palma Smith joins me on my show to discuss the new book Jesus, I Surrender Myself to You: The Life of Don Dolindo Ruotolo.

About Stella Maris Media

Illustration of Our Lady, Star of the Sea (Stella Maris)

Our vision

The name Stella Maris has its roots in a 5th-century translation by St. Jerome of the Hebrew name for Mary, Miryam. Originally written as Stilla Maris, it meant "Drop of the Sea." Through what likely stemmed from a transcription error, this evolved into Stella Maris, which means "Star of the Sea."

This title has been cherished in Catholic tradition, especially among seafarers before modern navigation, as they relied on the stars to guide them. Notably, the North Star, Polaris, was also known as Stella Maris.

Beyond just seafarers, Stella Maris serves as a beacon for all of life’s travelers, illuminating the darkness and offering hope as it cuts through the fog, guiding us toward the bright shores of eternity.

"Bringing hope to a world in need."
