Update: 11 Days After My Pelvic Fracture

It's just been 11 days since I fractured my pelvis in four places from falling off my galloping horse, and already I've had some major milestones in recovery — all thanks no doubt to your many prayers.

I'm a big believer in the power of prayer, especially when hundreds, if not thousands, of prayers are lifted up on one's behalf.

In only 11 days, I've hit a few milestones:

-being able to make it up the stairs (by scooting up each step sitting backwards by lifting myself up with my arms)

-sleeping in my own bed

-getting out of the rolling chair and onto crutches

-moving around a little in my kitchen and even sitting on my back porch

And today, driving for the first time!

That was major, but even more so was being reunited with Cowboy, who hasn't seen me since my fall. What a blessing to see him again!

My children have been going out to the farm daily to see to his needs since I've been convalescing, and they notice he's been troubled, not his usual calm and peaceful self. He was anxious, tense, nervous. He knew something was wrong.

Today, according to my daughter, he was the calmest he's been in 11 days. He stood quietly, eyes half-closed, as we groomed him, and later I had a a chance to sit in a folding chair in his run-in shed and pray the Rosary as he ate his alfalfa hay, the sun and heat falling around us and a slight breeze coming through the shade.

It will be a while before my full recovery, so I'd appreciate continued prayers for that. But the fact that I've made so much progress in less than two weeks is in itself remarkable — and it's no doubt owing to your prayers.

Thank you!

About Stella Maris Media

Illustration of Our Lady, Star of the Sea (Stella Maris)

Our vision

The name Stella Maris has its roots in a 5th-century translation by St. Jerome of the Hebrew name for Mary, Miryam. Originally written as Stilla Maris, it meant "Drop of the Sea." Through what likely stemmed from a transcription error, this evolved into Stella Maris, which means "Star of the Sea."

This title has been cherished in Catholic tradition, especially among seafarers before modern navigation, as they relied on the stars to guide them. Notably, the North Star, Polaris, was also known as Stella Maris.

Beyond just seafarers, Stella Maris serves as a beacon for all of life’s travelers, illuminating the darkness and offering hope as it cuts through the fog, guiding us toward the bright shores of eternity.

"Bringing hope to a world in need."
